GitHub

As a creative at GitHub, I worked closely with fellow designers and artists to collaborate with teams across marketing, product, sales and all of GitHub to create integrated, effective programs. This was a global undertaking of mass proportions.

Marketing & Communications
-

One of my main contributions was developing a variety of communication stylings for our vast developer audiences at GitHub. The key was to communicate authentically to GitHub vast array of audiences, toeing the line between nerdiness and seriousness, while fun and sophisticated. Content was created to compliment various campaigns and initiatives across all business verticals from marketing, sales, engineering, human resources, social justice initiatives, etc. I also created social media content for marketing campaigns, blogs, event announcements, e-books and more.

Events @ GitHub
-

At GitHub, I partnered and lead various events from small to massive. These events take place all over the world from the USA (Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Austin), to AMEA (Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris) and even APAC (Hong Kong, Melbourne, India). We even pivoted to all virtual events and new platforms (Twitch, YouTube) once COVID hit. The goal to the events was to serve as a platform where communities could hold workshops and learned discussions. This created hands-on opportunities to reinforce authentic connections and enable fandom.

GitHub Communities
-

Communities are important at GitHub. Open source thrives on communities interacting, sharing and exchanging ideas and offering opportunities for others to learn and grow. I focused on creating brands and solutions for community groups across all of GitHub’s businesses: employee resource groups, human resources, internships, education, and expansion.

I was also blessed to be a founding member and lead designer for our OctoGatos Latin employee resource group where we focused on building a more inclusive universe by energizing and empowering multicultural perspectives.

GitHub Education
-

Another passion of mine is education, I would not be here today without a lot of learning and unlearning. In collaboration with Senior Director of Education @Vanessa Gennarelli, I led creative strategy for our growing GitHub Education division partnering with directors to build out education packets, ebooks, certifications, swag, illustrations & infographics.

Summer Interns
-

Along with education, I also helped with the summer intern program at GitHub. I served as an online mentor during the 3-month internship, while also giving various presentations around the topics of design, brand and product. I also provided the team with their swap! Ship it!

GitHub International
-

I was the lead designer for GitHub’s expansion into Asia-Pacific and Australia. Translating the brand both visually and via text was a fun new challenge! Shoutout to @mishmanners for all the crazy early morning / late night international video chats and helping get all those stickers into folks’ hands!

Time @ GitHub
-

My time at GitHub was of immense growth and learning. I was on a small, mighty team that supported the entire customer journey and goals in the company. Through a combination of data, collaboration, and craft, we were able to increase awareness and affinity for a brand to make it beloved. We delighted superfans, while bringing in new communities, and most importantly, we drove sales!

I believe the best design has a positive impact on a person’s life, and I put that sentiment to heart in everything I did.
